RALLY AGAINST CANCER PRESENTED BY VERMONT CUSTOM CLOSETS
Saturday's matinee is UVM's annual Rally Against Cancer game presented by Vermont Custom Closets. The Catamounts will be wearing special lavender socks to show their support. New this year, the Rally Against Cancer games will be sporting a new color. In an effort to support and rally around all cancers the UVM Athletic Department, Vermont Custom Closets, and the UVM Cancer Center have decided to change the color from pink to lavender. Lavender is the universal color that represents all cancers. Fans are encouraged to wear lavender and support the efforts being made at the University of Vermont Cancer Center.
ALUMNI WEEKEND
UVM Athletics will host a hospitality tent behind the Virtue Stadium bleachers as we welcome alumni, parents and families back to campus. The tent will open one hour prior to the game and close after halftime. Vermont men's soccer alumni who are interested in attending the game but are not registered for Alumni Weekend can request tickets by e-mailing
Victory.Club@uvm.edu by 5 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 5). Program alumni are invited to join Athletic Director
Jeff Schulman '89 in the Founders Room (hospitality suite to the right at the top of the bleachers) during the game as well. Following the game, men's soccer alumni are invited to join the team on the pitch to meet the players, coaches and support staff. The coaching staff will then be at the Upper Deck Pub and welcome any program alumni to join them.
SCOUTING HARTFORD
The Hawks were picked seventh in this year's America East Preseason Coaches' Poll and come into the weekend unbeaten in their last two matches. Hartford earned a 1-1 draw against in-state foe Central Connecticut on Sept. 25, then beat Albany 1-0 last Saturday for its first win of the season. Xahne Reid leads the team with nine points on three goals and three assists. The senior midfielder also ranks among the league's top scorers. He sits in a fourth-place tie in assists and fifth-place tie in points. Kamer Nuhiu follows with five points and netted a goal in the draw with CCSU. Netminder Jimmy Slayton has stopped the second-most shots (38) in the conference behind Binghamton's Chris Shulter (45).
INSIDE THE SERIES
The series with the Hawks has been very back-and-forth, but the Cats own a 17-12-8 edge. In Catamount Country, Vermont is 11-7-3 against Hartford and the Green and Gold are unbeaten in seven out of the last 10 meetings (7-2-1) in Burlington. Last year,
Ívar Örn Árnason scored in the final minute and gave UVM a 1-0 victory in West Hartford.
