VESTAL, N.Y. – Jon Arnar Barðdal scored the only goal of the game as UVM men's soccer defeated Binghamton 1-0 Saturday night in a rain-soaked affair from the Bearcats Sports Complex. With the win UVM improves to 11-6 overall and 4-2 in America East while the Bearcats fall to 3-11-2 and 2-4 in league action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the third minute Binghamton goaltender Chris Shutler was called for a foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick being awarded to Vermont.
- Mikel Kabala took the penalty for the Catamounts and drove a hard-low shot to the right. Shutler dove and pushed it aside but Vermont's Geo Alves quickly fired the rebound back through the box and Barðdal tapped it home for his fifth goal of the season.
- Clay Thomas made four saves for the Catamounts including two in the final 15 minutes on Binghamton's Nikos Psarras to preserve the win.
NOTES
- Vermont will enter the final match day in America East with sole possession of second place with 12 points, two ahead of their next opponent New Hampshire. The top two teams receive a bye to the semifinals of the America East Tournament.
- With tonight's results Vermont has clinched a spot in the America East Tournament, and Stony Brook has secured one of the byes to the semifinal.
- The Catamounts earned their fifth straight win over the Bearcats.
- It was Vermont's eighth clean sheet since 2011 against Binghamton.
- Clay Thomas has given up just one goal in his last six starts.
- With the victory, the Cats Win, Community Wins campaign and Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate another $100 to the Boys and Girls Club of Burlington, bringing this year's total to 88 wins and $8,800.
