BALTIMORE - The Vermont women's swimming and diving team cruised to a 139-110 victory over Howard, but fell to defending America East Champion UMBC 194-96 in a double dual meet to begin the second half of the 2017-18 season.

"I am really pleased with how the team competed today, we put in strong performances across the board," said head coach
Gerry Cournoyer.
Shannon Cowley claimed Vermont's only victory of the meet, winning the 200 breast (2:27.76) by two-hundredths of a second. Cowley also finished second in the 100 breast (1:07.06).

Kristina Posnick took third in the 1000 free with a time of 10:46.20, followed by
Colleen Driscoll (10:57.14), who later placed fourth in the 200 IM (2:15.14) for the Cats.

Kelly Lennon took second in the 200 free (1:54.96) and third in the 500 free (5:13.06).
Dani Rocheleau finished third in the 200 free (1:56.60) just behind Lennon.

Kira Hancock finished second in both the 100 back (58.47) and 100 free (53.05), while
Vivian Nguyen was the Catamounts' top performer in the 100 fly, stopping the clock in 1:00.23 for third.

Rookie
Emily Murphy registered a pair of second-place finishes in the 1-meter (210.70) and 3-meter (225.70) diving events. Classmate
Haley Tomlinson dove to third on both the 1-meter (2:06.85) and 3-meter (223.75) boards.
