SETTING THE SCENE
The Catamounts come into the weekend with the third-highest scoring offense (8 goals, 4 assists) in America East. UVM has three of its own among the league leaders in points –
Sarah Martin is tied for third with six points while
Savana Yurick and
Ella Bankert follow in an eighth-place tie with four points. In net,
Coco Speckmaier possesses the fifth-lowest goals-against average at 1.28 and seventh-highest save percentage at .760 in the conference.
LAST TIME OUT | Bankert's Goal
For the fourth time in the last five meetings, Vermont and Siena needed two overtime sessions to determine a winner. On Wednesday night, the Catamounts were topped by Siena 2-1 in non-conference action. The Catamounts struck first in the ninth minute with Bankert's second goal of the season. Martin dished a pass to the top left corner of the box and Bankert tucked her shot inside of the far-right post. In double overtime, Gabby Albano scored the game-winner for Siena with a long shot from 25 yards out by lofting the walk-off score over a stretched-out Speckmaier (2 saves).
AMERICA EAST ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
For her overtime efforts last weekend, Bankert was named America East Rookie of the Week on Tuesday. The Cuttingsville, Vermont native gave the Catamounts their second straight overtime victory against Brown last Saturday and UVM owns a 3-0 home mark for the first time since 2003.
CONVERTING THE PK
Martin became the first UVM player to score multiple penalty kick goals in the same season since Emily Millbank '11 in 2010. Martin tallied her second penalty kick goal of the year in the 28th minute versus Brown.
CLIMBING THE RANKS
After reaching the win column against the Brown Bears, Speckmaier is one win shy of cracking the top-10 on the all-time wins list with 11 career victories. The Miami, Florida native is also one shutout away from tying Eliza Bradley '11 for ninth place on the career shutouts list. Speckmaier's 1.25 career goals-against average has solidified the seventh spot among netminders to sport the Green and Gold.
SCOUTING AMERICAN
The Eagles are in the midst of a three-game skid. American has been held scoreless in each loss this season but also recorded a pair of goals against Virginia Military Institute for a 2-1 victory in the home opener on Aug. 24. Charly Slavick and Toni Williams contributed one goal apiece while Kyanna Alleyne and Yari Bradfield handed out assists. The Eagles have used three different keepers this season but freshman Ryleigh Brown had a solid outing in a tough loss at George Washington on Monday - three saves and one goal allowed.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The weekend matchup at American will be the third meeting between the two programs and the first since 2011. The Eagles won the first contest 2-1 in the nation's capital back in 2010 while the Catamounts rebounded a year later with a 1-0 shutout in Burlington.
