WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – UVM sophomore
Ívar Örn Árnason found the back of the net with a header in the final minute and handed the Catamounts a 1-0 victory at Hartford on Saturday night in the conference opener. Vermont improves to 6-4 overall and gets America East play underway at 1-0. Hartford drops to 3-6-2 on the year and begins the league slate at 0-1.

"Tonight's game was our most committed performance this season," head coach
Rob Dow said. "I'm very proud of how the team battled for 90 minutes and conference games always come down to a few big plays. This was our fifth away game in a row and we found a way to get three league points. There is a lot that we can build upon from tonight."
Hartford was in control of the tempo early in the first half. In the 18th minute, the Hawks took a free kick from the left side of the field. Alexis Triadis bent a kick towards the far post and UVM keeper
Aron Runarsson (4 saves) dove to his left to make a diving save.
Later in the half,
Geo Alves was positioned in the six-yard box and the junior tried to sneak an attempt inside of the far post with a bicycle kick but the ball bounced inches too wide of the net.
The Green and Gold had a solid scoring chance in the 71st minute.
Dani Rovira fought off a defender in the 18-yard box and booted a right-footed shot through traffic, but Hawks goalie Jimmy Slayton (3 saves) scooped the ball up for the save.
As the clock ticked down to the final minute, the Catamounts were presented with a free kick from about 40 yards out. Alves launched a ball into the box where Árnason leaped above the Hawks' defense and placed in the game-winner into the top left corner of the net.
UVM had to make one final defensive stand with three seconds left in the contest as the Hawks took a free kick from the right side of the field. Triadis bent a kick in front of the net but the Cats' backline cleared the ball away as the final horn sounded.
