SETTING THE SCENE
The Green and Gold are seeking their first 3-0 start at home since 2003. The 2011 and 2014 squads came close with 2-0-1 marks to begin the home slate. As a team, the Cats have scored the third-most goals (5) in the conference and have solidified the fourth spot in the statistical rankings with 12 points. Vermont has attempted 54 shots in the first three contests, the third-highest total among conference foes, including 20 shots against Sacred Heart and Florida International. A year ago, UVM only attempted 20-plus shots three times. Junior
Savana Yurick comes into the weekend in a third-place tie in America East with four points and she is among the league leaders in game-winning goals.
LAST TIME OUT | Florida International Highlights
Yurick scored the game-winning goal in the 92nd minute to give the Catamounts a 1-0 overtime victory over Florida International last Sunday in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. In the extra session, the Catamounts were on the attack when
Brooke Jenkins trapped a clear attempt by the Panthers' defense. Jenkins fed a low through ball to Yurick who stretched out her right foot and tapped the game-winning shot into the right side of the net.
COCO ON THE CHARTS
Goalie
Coco Speckmaier has accrued 10 wins during her time as a Catamount and she only needs two more victories to break into the top-10 on the all-time wins list. The Miami, Florida native is also one shutout away from tying Eliza Bradley '11 for ninth on the career shutouts list. Speckmaier's 1.28 career goals-against average has solidified the seventh spot among netminders to sport the Green and Gold.
SCOUTING BROWN
The Bears roll into Burlington with an unblemished 3-0 record after taking down Maine (W, 2-1 OT), Rhode Island (W, 3-2 2OT), and Hartford (W, 4-0). Brown kept its streak alive of recording at least one point in 20 of its last 22 matches, dating back to 2015. The Bears have the 15th-highest scoring offense in the nation with 27 points on nine goals and nine assists. Coming into the season, senior Mikela Waldman had scored five career goals but has already notched four scores this season to lead the team. Celia Story follows with a pair of goals and Jennifer Caruso has contributed three assists – the fifth-most in the country. Goalkeeper Christine Etzel owns an impressive 0.95 goals-against average this season and has moved into sole possession of sixth place on Brown's all-time wins list with 19 career victories.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The Catamounts and Bears will resume the all-time series after a five-year break. Despite a 3-11-3 disadvantage, Vermont is 2-3-3 in the last eight contests against Brown and four of the meetings needed at least one overtime period.
WHO'S NEXT
Vermont hits the road for a two-game swing next week, starting with a trip to Siena on Wednesday (Sept. 6) at 5 p.m.
