LOWELL, Mass. – After mounting a late comeback in the second half, the Catamounts could not overcome a seven-goal deficit earlier in the period and UVM suffered a 14-8 conference defeat at UMass Lowell in Sunday's regular season road finale.

Vermont drops to 1-14 on the season and falls to 0-5 in conference play. UMass Lowell earns its first America East victory in program history with a 1-4 league mark and improves to 7-8 overall on the year.
Jenna Janes recorded her fifth hat trick of the season and caused a pair of turnovers for the Catamounts.
Alison Bolt and
Meredith Moore added two goals apiece and combined to win six draw controls.
Brynne Yarranton netted a goal with two ground balls, two draw controls and caused a turnover.
Molly Little and Moore each handed out two assists.
Maddy Kuras stopped six shots in goal and
Catherine Green saved one shot in a relief appearance.
UMass Lowell used a double hat trick from Hana Caster to reach the conference win column, including three free-position goals. Austin Trasatti tallied a hat trick as seven different River Hawks scored a goal. Courtney Barrett earned the victory after saving 10 shots in the outing.
The River Hawks got on the scoreboard when Rebecca Idson netted her first goal of the afternoon at the 28:42 mark. Two minutes later, Janes scored the equalizer for the Catamounts after she weaved her way through a pair of UMass Lowell defenders and lined a shot past Barrett.
UVM kept the offensive momentum on its side with two straight goals. Little forced a turnover and ran up the field before drawing a foul on the River Hawks. The freshman set up the free position attempt by dishing a pass to Moore, who gave the green and gold a 2-1 lead. At the 20:29 mark, Bolt beat the shot clock after finding open space in the middle of the crease.
UMass Lowell came back and took a 6-3 lead with five unanswered goals. Janes stopped the River Hawks' run by converting a free position goal with 9:23 remaining on the clock. Jane Dudley responded for the River Hawks with her own free position goal. Dudley came through with the free position goal with a minute and a half left on the first period and gave UMass Lowell a 7-4 lead before halftime.
The River Hawks opened the second half with four straight goals and increased their lead to 11-4. Bolt and Moore teamed up to stop UMass Lowell's run with back-to-back goals. After Caster notched her fifth goal of the day, the Catamounts inched closer with two goals in a 40-second span from Yarranton and Janes. The pair of goals from Yarranton and Janes helped UVM draw within 12-8 with nine minutes left in the game.
In the last three and a half minutes, Trasatti and Caster added their final goals of the contest to put the game out of reach for the green and gold.
Vermont wraps up the regular season on Saturday (April 29) with a visit from UMBC. The opening draw is set for 11 a.m. UVM will honors its seven seniors – Bolt,
