VESTAL, N.Y. – Vermont scored four unanswered goals to begin the second half and came within a goal of tying the game at Binghamton, but could not find the equalizer. The Catamounts dropped the America East opener to the Bearcats 14-9 on Saturday afternoon.

Vermont starts off conference play at 0-1 and falls to 1-10 overall on the season. Binghamton grabs a win in the league opener and improves to 4-6 overall.
UVM used a pair of hat tricks from
Brynne Yarranton and
Jenna Janes to fuel the offensive attack. Yarranton led the Catamounts with four goals, won six draw controls, and scooped up a ground ball. Janes added three goals on three free-position attempts.
Elena McWright and
Bailey Saneman also found the back of the net with one goal apiece.
Catherine Green set a new career-high with 10 saves in goal.
Binghamton had three players record a hat trick to pick up the victory. Rebecca Golderman netted a game-high five goals and recorded seven draw controls. Tiffany Ryan contributed four goals and dealt an assist while Jacqueline Kennedy posted three goals and a pair of draw controls. Emma Jehle matched Green with 10 saves in net.
The Bearcats tallied five goals in opening nine minutes before McWright answered with her sixth goal of the season to get the Catamounts on the scoreboard.
Yarranton netted UVM's second goal of the period with six and a half minutes left in the half as the Cats trailed 7-2 at the break.
In the second half, Yarranton completed the hat trick and Janes added a goal at the 22:27 mark as Vermont closed the gap to 7-6. Binghamton responded with goals from Golderman and Kennedy, but Yarranton came through for the Cats with her fourth goal of the afternoon at 10:48 as UVM kept the score close at 9-7.
After the two conference rivals traded scores, the Bearcats notched three straight goals and stretched their lead to 13-8 with under five minutes left in the game. Saneman scored with 2:40 left in the contest to keep the Cats in the game but Golderman tallied her fifth goal with 62 ticks remaining in the game for the final margin of victory.
