The setback drops the Catamounts to 12-11-9 on the season and 8-7-7 against Hockey East opponents. BC, which is unbeaten in 17 of its last 18 games, is now 22-4-5 and 16-3-3.
"BC out-competed us today and deserves the win," said head coach
Jim Plumer. "We are on to Merrimack."
The Eagles managed to quickly work a 3-0 lead in the game's first 10 minutes. BC got on the board at 6:15 when Megan Keller buried a doorstep rebound while shorthanded. Delaney Belinskas fired the initial shot in a 2-on-1, while Serena Sommerfield received the second assist.
Shortly thereafter, BC netted a pair to triple its lead. With just under 11 minutes on the clock, Bridget McCarthy finished a setup by Haley McLean to move the score to 2-0. Just 17 seconds later, BC buried another opportunity courtesy of Erin Connolly, with the helpers going to Andie Anastos and Keller.
As the first period entered the final minute the Eagles capitalized on one more opportunity. Anastos received the puck at the top of the left circle and fed Kenzie Kent down low for a one-timer that found its way home at the 19:02 mark.
After Kent added her second of the day in the second period,
Victoria Andreakos put the Green and Gold on the board and ended Katie Burt's shutout bid.
Daria O'Neill poked the puck away from a BC skater in the Vermont zone, then dished to Andreakos. The latter found
Alyssa Gorecki at the blue line, allowing Gorecki to skate in on goal before drawing a penalty. As she did, Andreakos collected the carom off the boards and tucked the puck inside the right post.
BC added two more to wrap up the day's scoring. Keller tallied her second of the day at 13:43 of the second stanza and was followed up by Anastos at 18:12.
As a team, Vermont combined for 35 saves between the pipes, marked in part by 15 for freshman
Sydney Scobee, who entered in the waning stages of the second period posted nearly 22 clean minutes of action. Burt made 11 stops and was later relieved by Gabriella Switaj (5 saves).
Keller finished up the day for BC with five points on her pair of goals along with three assists.
