FINAL SCORE: Vermont 2, Concordia 1
MONTREAL, Qué. – After more than two periods of scoreless hockey, Vermont and Concordia combined for three goals in the final 13 minutes as the Catamounts edged the Stingers 2-1 Sunday afternoon.
 
Vermont remained unbeaten through the tournament, defeating Ryerson on Friday and Guelph on Saturday.
 
"This was a great weekend for us to get back on track," Head Coach Jim Plumer said. "Every single player on our team played lots of minutes and impacted the games. It was nice to get away from the grind and work on some aspects of our game that are starting to come together."
 
UVM held a 16-14 advantage in shots through the first two periods, with Melissa Black making 14 saves for Vermont and Alice Philbert stopping all 16 shots faced.
 
The Catamounts killed the remainder of a double minor penalty called against Kourtney Menches late in the second to open the final period. Shortly after, a tripping call against Alyssa Gorecki led to Concordia breaking the deadlock on the advantage with a goal from Brigitte Laganière.  
 
Kristina Shanahan tied the game for Vermont two and a half minutes after the Concordia goal. Defensemen Sammy Kolowrat and Taylor Flaherty picked up assists on the play.
 
With just over seven minutes remaining in regulation, Kolowrat picked up a pass from Gorecki and snuck a shot past Philbert for the eventual game-winner. Concordia's efforts to tie the game fell short with a penalty call against the Stingers with 2:26 remaining.
 
At the end of regulation, Vermont had a 25-19 shot advantage with Black making 18 saves in the win. The win marks Vermont's 60th to this point of the year, bringing the Cat's Win, Community Wins campaign total to $6,000 for the Boys and Girls Club of Burlington. Vermont Mutual is donating $100 for every Vermont win during the 2017-18 academic year.
 
Vermont resumes Hockey East play next weekend with a pair of games against Providence College at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The Friars and Catamounts are scheduled to take the ice at 4 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 6) and at 3 p.m. on Sunday (Jan. 7).
