ABOUT VERMONT
The Catamounts rebounded from a loss to Providence in the regular season opener with a 2-1 triumph over UConn this past Saturday in Storrs.
Sydney Scobee registered her first career Hockey East win, stopping 27 of the 28 shots she faced.
Mackenzie MacNeil and
Saana Valkama scored to erase a 1-0 deficit, and Scobee denied a Huskies' breakaway with five minutes remaining to seal the win. UVM is a perfect 11-for-11 on the penalty kill through two league contests.
SCOUTING UNION
Union is 0-2-1 through three games after a loss and tie at Penn State this past weekend. Arianna Kosakowski leads the team with three goals and four points, while Cheyenne Harris has collected a pair of assists. Three different goalies have already seen action thus far, each with one start. Kate Spooner earned the most playing time last year with 23 starts during her rookie campaign. The Dutchwomen went 5-28-1 last season with a record of 2-19-1 in ECAC play. Josh Sciba is in his second year as the head coach of the program after spending four years as an assistant at Colgate.
SERIES HISTORY
Last year, Vermont opened the regular season with a 5-1 victory over Union at Messa Rink. The forward line of
Mackenzie MacNeil,
Ève-Audrey Picard, and
Victoria Andreakos combined for four goals and two assists in the victory. The Catamounts have won all 20 meetings in the all-time series dating back to the first matchup in 1999.
WHO'S NEXT
Vermont hits the road this weekend for a two-game series against ninth-ranked Quinnipiac. The non-league matchups are scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 13) and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 14) in Hamden, Connecticut at the TD Bank Sports Center.
