LAST TIME OUT | Albany Highlights
UVM junior
Brooke Jenkins scored the game-winning goal in the final minute as Vermont pulled off a 2-1 upset at third-seeded Albany on Thursday night in the America East Quarterfinal. With the score tied at 1-1 in the 90th minute, Jenkins played a ball into the box but the cross was cleared away by Albany's defense. The junior midfielder gathered the loose ball and lined the game-winning goal into the right side of the net from 30 yards out after getting a friendly deflection off a leaping Great Dane defender.
FIRST CAREER TALLY
UVM senior and team captain
Taylor Palmer scored her first career goal for the Catamounts in the 36th minute of Thursday's semifinal match at Albany. After
Casey Garfinkel booted a free kick,
Sarah Martin held off a defender on the edge of the box and heel-kicked a ball towards the net. Palmer tracked down the feed and finished the go-ahead score inside of the left post.
CATS IN THE AMERICA EAST TOURNAMENT
The Green and Gold will make their third straight semifinal appearance – a first for the program. For the second consecutive year, No. 6 Vermont defeated a No. 3 ranked team in the quarterfinal round of the America East Tournament. With a win, the Catamounts will make their first trip to the America East Championship Game in school history.
ALL-TIME COACHING WINS LIST
After topping Albany, head coach
Kristi Lefebvre moved into a second-place tie with Jodi Kenyon for second place on the program's all-time coaching wins list with 41 victories. In her first season at the helm in 2011, the Catamounts earned a berth into the America East Tournament for the first time in five years and she has guided the Green and Gold to four semifinals appearances during her time in Burlington – the most by any Vermont women's head coach.
AMERICA EAST POSTSEASON HONORS
The 2017 America East Women's Soccer Annual Awards were handed out on Wednesday. The Catamounts were represented by Martin on the All-Conference First Team, Jenkins made the All-Conference Second Team and All-Academic Team, and
Ella Bankert was honored with an All-Rookie Team nod.
SCOUTING BINGHAMTON
America East Co-Coach of the Year Neel Bhattacharjee and the Bearcats enter the conference tournament on a five-game unbeaten streak (4-0-1) after clinching a share of the regular season title with UNH to earn a bye. Binghamton possesses the third-highest scoring offense in the league with 79 points on 28 goals and 20 assists. Redshirt junior forward Kayla Saager was named America East Striker of the Year after leading the conference in points (29), goals (11), and assists (7).
FIRST TIME EVER
The Catamounts and Bearcats will meet for the first time ever in the postseason. In the all-time series, Sunday's America East Semifinal will be the rubber match between the two conference foes as Vermont evened things up at 7-7 with a 2-0 shutout in Vestal, New York during the regular season.
AMERICA EAST CHAMPIONSHIP
The winner of this game will face the winner of No. 5 seed Stony Brook and top-seeded New Hampshire in the America East Championship on Sunday, Nov. 5.
