FINAL SCORE: Vermont 2, Stony Brook 1
STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Catamounts scored a goal in each half for a 2-1 America East victory at Stony Brook on Wednesday night. Vermont improves to 7-6 on the season and climbs to 2-1 in the conference standings. The Seawolves are left searching for their first league win at 0-2-1 while dropping to 6-4-3 overall this year.

"The team was resilient tonight in getting another conference win on the road," head coach
Rob Dow said. "All players contributed to the result tonight whether they were on teh field or on the sideline. We will have to recover quickly and get prepared to play UMass Lowell on Saturday."
In the 13th minute,
Geo Alves and
Justin Freitas worked a give-and-go and nearly converted the scoring opportunity. After charging up the middle of the field, Alves passed out wide to Freitas, who returned the feed to Alves in the box. Alves was 1-on-1 with Stony Brook goalie Jacob Braham (5 saves), but the netminder made a kick save to keep the Catamounts off the scoreboard.
In the 33rd minute, Alves came into the box from the left side and tried to sneak a ball into the top right corner of the net but his attempt sailed inches too high of the crossbar.
Alves came through for the Catamounts in the 41st minute.
Daði Bærings Halldórsson got behind the Stony Brook defense and chased a ball down on the goal line. Halldoorsson sent a low cross through the hands of a diving Braham to Alves, who was standing in front of the net for the easy one-timer.
Freitas doubled UVM's lead 10 minutes into the final period. The Cats worked quickly on a free kick when Alves toed a pass to the right side of the field to
Jon Arnar Barðdal, who ripped a cross towards the near post. On the cross, Freitas stretched out his right foot and knocked in his fourth goal of the season.
The Seawolves cut the deficit in half in the 65th minute with a penalty kick. Vince Erdei placed his kick into the top right corner of the net past an outstretched
Aron Runarsson (5 saves).
