WRIGHT STATE OF MIND
Vermont is the second-highest goal and point scoring team in the country. The Catamounts have found the back of the net 25 times and racked up a total of 70 points this season, trailing only Florida Gulf Coast (31 goals, 88 points) for the top spot.
Brian Wright has helped the UVM point total as the nation's leader in assists per game (0.82) and total assists (9). With his goal on Tuesday versus Hartwick,
Bernard Yeboah moved into a fourth place tie nationally with nine goals.
CONFERENCE STRENGTH
America East's conference RPI (4) trails only the ACC, Big East and Pac 12 amongst the 24 Division I conferences that sponsor men's soccer. The league's .710 non-conference winning percentage is second only to the ACC. America East is joined by the ACC as the only conferences with five programs ranked in the top 50 of the RPI: #25 - UMass Lowell, #36 - Albany, #38 - Vermont, #45 - New Hampshire, #46 - UMBC.
SCOUTING STONY BROOK
The Seawolves come into Saturday's game without a blemish on their record in over a month. Stony Brook rides a 5-2-2 record into Burlington and has posted a 4-0-2 record since its last defeat on Sept. 2 at Buffalo (L, 3-0), with three of the wins coming in a shutout. Junior forward Vince Erdei has come on strong of late with three goals in the last two games. Erdei is tied for the team lead with four goals and eight points this season. Tom McMahon has started all but one game for the Seawolves in net with a 1.09 goals-against average and four shutouts.
SERIES HISTORY
Vermont has an 8-5-2 edge in the all-time series and has won three of the last four contests (3-0-1). Since 2007, five of the previous 10 games needed at least one overtime period to decide an outcome. The matchups have been very close with only three margins of victories larger than a goal.
WHO'S NEXT
Vermont travels to Albany on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. in the first conference road test of the season. The game can be seen live for free in HD via AmericanEast.TV.
