LOS ANGELES – Michaela Michael and Caroline deLyra combined for nine goals to lead No. 11 USC to an 18-7 victory over visiting Vermont at McAlister Field on Saturday. The Catamounts fall to 1-3 on the year, while the Trojans improve to 4-0.

Courtney Cole led Vermont with a pair of goals and was one of six Catamounts to score.

Four different Trojans scored in the first 10 minutes of the game to give USC a 4-0 lead. The Catamounts climbed back within one after three straight goals, from
Marjorie Dehm,
Brynne Yarranton and
Alex Bernier. However, that was as close as UVM would get the rest of the game.

USC rattled off six straight scores, including a pair from Drexel and Michael, to push out to a 10-3 lead and took an 11-4 advantage into halftime.

The Trojans' lead grew to 11, 16-5 at the 15:21 mark, after scoring five of the first six goals of the second half. The Catamounts halted a four-goal rally by USC with back-to-back tallies from
Meredith Moore and Cole, but could not cut into the lead. USC scored twice more over the final nine minutes to post the victory.

Gussie Johns made two stops to earn her fourth win of the season in the USC net.
Maddy Kuras made six stops for Vermont as she and
Catherine Green split time in goal for the Catamounts.
