UVM drops to 4-6-4 on the season while the win puts the Golden Knights at 13-3-2.
"Credit to Clarkson for winning the third period," said head coach
Jim Plumer. "They are an excellent and opportunistic team. I love the way our team competed this weekend and I hope we can keep this excellent play going heading into an important Hockey East weekend at Northeastern."
Kelly's tally came at 8:18 after the play initiated along the point.
Taylor Willard dished a pass to
Rachael Ade, who sent the puck on goal. As it approached goaltender Shea Tiley, Kelly was in front to redirect it home.
Kelly Mariani tied the score at one-apiece later in the period as the puck took a fortuitous path toward goal. Geneviève Bannon and Taylor Turnquist received assists on the play.
Clarkson netted the game-winner with 13:24 to play in regulation. Cassidy Vinkle gained possession in the offensive zone and went top shelf for the tally. The Golden Knights added one more for insurance with 7:32 left when Rhyen McGill found Loren Gabel at the top of the right circle for a wrist shot. Emma Keenan was credited a secondary assist.
Senior
Madison Litchfield made 23 stops in the setback and was named to the Windjammer Classic All-Tournament Team along with classmate
Bridget Baker. Baker netted her first career hat trick in Friday's win over St. Cloud State and scored both a power play and shorthanded goal in the second period of that contest.
Tiley made 12 stops in goal for the Golden Knights.
UVM was a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The Catamounts are back in action on Saturday, Dec. 3 when the squad faces Hockey East rival Northeastern at Matthews Arena in Boston. Puck drop is slated for 2 p.m.
