WORKIN' OVERTIME | Stony Brook Highlights
The Catamounts enter Friday's showdown after back-to-back double overtime games. Last Tuesday, Vermont suffered a 2-1 double overtime loss to Hartwick in the non-conference finale, but rebounded with a 2-1 win over Stony Brook on Saturday.
Brian Wright tallied his second double-overtime game-winning goal of the season in the 106th minute.
Loftur Eriksson kept the game alive with 47 seconds remaining in regulation by converting a penalty kick.
NATIONAL POLL RANKINGS
After splitting the week, the Catamounts are ranked fourth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division I East Regional Poll. In the national poll, UVM received 10 votes and ranks 35th in the country. The College Soccer News Top 30 poll has UVM receiving votes at No. 32, only two spots behind twin state rival New Hampshire.
B-STING
The tandem of Wright and
Bernard Yeboah continue to be two of the top statistical players in the country. Wright leads the nation with nine assists and sits second with 0.75 assists per game. He has racked up 23 total points, which ranks fifth in the land. Yeboah is seventh in the country with nine goals and 21 points. The duo is tied for 10th with three game-winning goals.
CLOSING IN ON A MILESTONE
With UVM's win over Stony Brook, head coach
Jesse Cormier recorded his 109th career victory on the sidelines. Cormier only needs five more wins to tie Ron McEachen's record of 114 program wins. The Catamounts have six regular season games remaining on the schedule plus the America East Tournament.
SCOUTING ALBANY
The Great Danes are unbeaten this season at home with a 3-0-1 record and just knocked off No. 3 Syracuse on Tuesday with a 3-1 win. Albany has outscored its foes at Casey Stadium, 9-4, and has yet to surrender more than one goal a game since the season-opening 2-2 tie with Marist. Afonso Pinheiro leads Albany with five scores and tied for fifth in America East. Carlos Clark follows Pinheiro with a pair of goals and assists in 10 games. Goalie Danny Vitiello is second in the league with 3.50 saves per game and fifth with 26 total saves.
SERIES HISTORY
The all-time series has been very back-and-forth since the start in 2000. The Catamounts won four straight from 2002-05 but neither squad won back-to-back games until Albany took the playoff meeting in 2012 and the first matchup in 2013. UVM has fared well in Albany with three wins in the last four years.
