ABOUT VERMONT | UMass Lowell Highlights
The Catamounts had an exciting weekend by grabbing the first America East victory of the season over UMass Lowell, thanks to Sarah Martin's game-winning goal on Sunday. UVM won the conference home opener with a 1-0 win after Martin scored the walk-off goal in the 100th minute. For the fourth straight season, the Catamounts bounced back with a win in the second America East matchup on the schedule.
CONFERENCE RANKS
Martin is tied for the league lead with 48 total shots and ranks second with 4.36 shots per game this year. Julia Smith leads all America East rookies with five goals, 0.45 goals per game, and sits fifth with 10 points. Coco Speckmaier is third in the conference with a 0.97 goals-against average this season, which is tied for the eighth-best season in program history.
SCOUTING STONY BROOK
Stony Brook is 3-1-2 on its home turf this season with the only loss coming in a 1-0 double overtime defeat to Bryant on Aug. 19 in the season opener. The Seawolves lead the league with 14.85 shots per game, due in large part to junior midfielder Christen Cahill. The junior sets her teammates up for success and leads the conference with five assists on the year. Raven Edwards has charted five goals with two coming against America East opponents. Since Cara Gallagher took over goalkeeping duties in the middle of the season, the sophomore is 4-2-1 and has accrued four shutouts during her time as keeper.
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE
The Wildcats sit atop the America East standings and statistical leaderboard. UNH has the highest scoring offense in the league at 1.50 goals per game thanks to junior Brooke Murphy's eight goals so far. Murphy's goal tally ranks 29th in the nation has and recorded six goals in the last six games. The team has posted eight goals in conference play, which is only one score behind Hartford, which lost to the Wildcats on Sunday 3-1. Mimi Borkan has been a wall for UNH in net. Borkan ranks first among America East goalies with 68 saves and is tied for the lead with four shutouts.
SERIES HISTORY
Vermont holds a 13-10 edge in the all-time series with Stony Brook. The Catamounts snapped a two-game skid against the Seawolves a year ago with a 1-0 win at Virtue Field. UVM won the first nine meetings from 1990-2001.
In the head-to-head matchups with UNH, the mark is close but UVM faces a 15-18-4 disadvantage. The Catamounts are looking for their first win over the Wildcats since 2011.
