CATAMOUNTS RECAP
Vermont embarks on the regular season following a 3-2 exhibition setback on Sunday, Sept. 25 against McGill. UVM jumped out to a 2-0 lead courtesy of goals from
Alyssa Gorecki and
Cassidy Campeau, but the Martlets managed to string together a comeback effort that was completed just under nine minutes into the third frame. Lea Dumais netted the game-winner at the 2:51 mark of overtime when Sidonie Chard sent Dumais a centering pass in front of the net.
Senior
Madison Litchfield and sophomore
Melissa Black each turned in 13-save performances, while freshman
Sydney Scobee turned aside six shots between the pipes for the Catamounts.
SCOUTING UNION
Union sits at 0-2 on the young campaign following a pair of setbacks against Connecticut this past weekend. The Dutchwomen were dealt a 5-1 defeat on Friday night and gained an early 1-0 lead on Saturday before UConn rallied to pick up a 2-1 win.
Caitlyn McLaren and Rachel de Perio each chipped in a goal in the UConn series, while freshmen goalies Kate Spooner and Celine Tessier earned one start apiece, combining for a 3.50 goals against average.
Notre Dame alumnus Josh Sciba is in the early stages of his first season at Union, being named head coach in May. Prior to taking the reins of the Dutchwomen, he served a four-year stint at Colgate as an assistant, helping the team set a program record in wins (22) last season and reaching the No. 8 position in the final USCHO.com poll.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Historically, the Catamounts have had Union's number, winning all 19 matchups against their former ECAC rival dating back to 1999. The last meeting between the two teams came on Jan. 2, 2016, when UVM picked up a 4-2 road win over the Dutchwomen. The Catamounts scored three goals in the first period and needed just 1:04 to get on the board thanks to
Dayna Colang.
Madison Litchfield made 24 saves to preserve the win for Vermont.
