BURLINGTON, Vt. – Senior captain
Jessica Roach tallied a team-high four points on three goals and one assist, but Vermont fell to No. 9 Stony Brook, 12-5, in America East women's lacrosse action at Virtue Field on Saturday.
Stony Brook (12-1, 4-0 AE) was led by Kylie Ohlmiller, who notched a game-high seven points on five goals and a pair of assists. Courtney Murphy added four goals, and Dorrien Van Dyke chipped in with a pair of goals and assists.
Roach picked up her 11
th game with three or more scores this season, and also added one assist in the contest for four points total.
Elena McWright and
Danielle Seifert added the other tallies for the Catamounts.
Kaitlyn Leahy made four saves in the contest to register the win for Stony Brook, and
Meg Hopkins also stopped four shots in goal for Vermont.
Vermont (9-6, 2-2 AE) opened the contest with three of the first four goals, which included a pair of free-position scores. Roach netted two of the goals during the early stretch, and Vermont led 3-1 at the 20:13 mark.
Ohlmiller and Murphy responded for Stony Brook with two goals apiece as the Seawolves ended the first half on a 4-0 run to open a 5-3 advantage.
Stony Brook tallied the opening six scores of the second half, including two goals each from Murphy and Van Dyke, to extend its lead to 11-3 with 10:30 remaining.
McWright and Roach answered back for the Catamounts with back-to-back tallies with under-10 minutes remaining, and Vermont closed the deficit to 11-5. That was as close as UVM would get, eventually falling to the Seawolves by a final of 12-5.
