Vermont Skates to 3-3 Tie with New Hampshire on Senior Day

Final Score: Vermont 3, New Hampshire 3 | Box Score | CatamounTV Highlights
BURLINGTON, Vt.
– Dayna Colang had a goal and an assist to lead Vermont to a 3-3 tie against New Hampshire in Hockey East action Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

Kayla Mork opened the scoring for the Wildcats at the 10:41 mark of the first period. Mork took a breakout pass from Haley Breedlove and entered the Vermont zone on a two-on-one. Mork fired a low shot past Vermont's Madison Litchfield for her fourth goal of the season.

Victoria Andreakos tied the game at one just minutes later with her third goal of the season. Rachael Ade fired a point shot that New Hampshire's Vilma Vaattovaara padded aside but Andreakos gathered the rebound and skated behind the net and stuffed a wraparound past Vaattovaara with 7:42 left in the first period.

The Wildcats reclaimed the lead 7:22 into the second period on another transition opportunity. Jonna Curtis skated down to the goal line before centering a pass on her backhand. The pass was perfectly placed for Mork who one-timed a shot past Litchfield as she picked up her first career multi-goal game.

Amy Boucher extended the Wildcats lead to two goals 50 seconds later. As Boucher entered the zone and cut down the wing she centered a pass that deflected off a skate in front of the net and past Litchfield to make it 3-1 with 11:48 left in the middle frame.

The Catamounts started their comeback late in the second period. Colang fired the puck behind the net and Amanda Pelkey took the feed and immediately centered it blindly to the front. Pelkey's pass hit Sarah Campbell in stride and she fired the shot past Vaattovaara for her fifth goal of the season with 2:05 left in the second period.

Vermont completed its comeback 8:01 into the third period on the power play. Amanda Drobot fired a wrist shot from the point that was initially padded aside by Vaattovaara, Colang gathered the rebound and quickly fired it in for her team-leading 18th goal of the season.

With the game-tying goal Colang extended her goal-scoring streak to seven games and set a new Vermont single-season record with her eighth power play goal of the year.

Following the Catamounts game-tying goal each team had a power play opportunity late in the third but couldn't convert. For the second time in three games Vermont was headed to overtime.

Vermont outshot New Hampshire 6-2 in the extra frame but for the first time this season the Catamounts played to a tie in Hockey East play. Vaattovaara was named the game's third start for her 43 save performance. Litchfield made 17 saves for Vermont as she improved her record to 10-13-2.

"I'm proud of our effort today, said head coach Jim Plumer.  "We battled back and showed a lot of heart on a very emotional day for our seniors and our entire team. This is a tough group and we battled to the end and had some chances to win it late and in overtime. "

Vermont closes out the regular season next weekend as they travel to Providence for a two-game Hockey East series at Schneider Arena. The Catamounts will face the Friars at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

NOTES: Amanda Pelkey led all skaters with 10 shots on goal … Katherine Pate and Bridget Baker blocked three shots for Vermont … The Catamounts are now 8-2-1 over the last two seasons in the month of February … Pelkey has eight goals and seven assists in 10 career games against New Hampshire.
