FINAL SCORE: Vermont 180, Maine 110BURLINGTON, Vt. – Shannon Cowley set a pool record in the 100-yard breaststroke and the Vermont swimming & diving team coasted past America East rival Maine 180-110 on Saturday afternoon at Forbush Natatorium. The Catamounts improved to 3-2 with their second straight 70-point victory at home.

Haley Gula (1:06.19). Cowley (2:23.91) and Gula (2:24.62) were also tight 1-2 finishers in the 200 breast for Vermont.
In the 100 backstroke,
Courtney Gray (58.85),
Kira Hancock (59.35), and
Elena Melloni (1:00.41) finished 1-2-3 for the Catamounts. Gray was also the champion of the 100 butterfly, finishing with a time of 58.39.
UVM also went 1-2-3 in the 200-yard freestyle as
Kelly Lennon won the race in 1:54.18, followed by
Sarah Mantz (1:54.36) and
Audrey Shenkin (1:55.61).
Lauren Punger easily won the 200 fly in 2:08.78 with
Alexy Novelli placing third with a time of 2:11.26.
Christa Weaver followed by winning the 50 yard free in 24.12 with Mantz half a second behind in 24.68. Weaver added a second victory in the 100 free with a time of 53.13, while Hancock finished in a close second with her mark of 53.32. Lennon also registered a win in the 500 yard free in 5:09.94.
Elsewhere in the swimming events,
Dani Rocheleau claimed the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:07.30, followed four seconds later by Melloni in second (2:11.37).
Senior
Maggie Preston dominated the diving events for the fourth straight event. The America East Diver of the Week took both events, winning the 1-meter with a score of 240.82 and the 3-meter with 247.57.
Vermont competes in a pair of meets next weekend. The Catamounts travel to face Central Connecticut State on Saturday, Nov. 14 and host Bryant on Sunday, Nov. 15. Both events are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. The Bryant meet will be streamed for free at AmericaEast.TV as UVM hosts its Rally Against Cancer Meet presented by Otter Creek Awnings and Vermont Custom Closets.
