Vermont Takes on Boston College in NCAA Tournament Thursday

NCAA TOURNAMENT NOTEBOOK 
The Vermont Catamounts, the 2015 America East Champions, will face Boston College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday (Nov. 19) at the Newton Campus Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. in Newton, Mass. The game is scheduled to be streamed online via bceagles.com (free). Tickets for the game are $7 for adults and $3 for children, college students and senior citizens.

Vermont, which is making its ninth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament with a 1-0 win over Binghamton on Sunday in the conference championship game before a record crowd of 1,913 at Virtue Field.  Boston College is making its 13th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and earned an at-large bid out of the ACC.

AMERICA EAST TOURNAMENT RECAP
In the first-ever night game in program history at Virtue Field, Bernard Yeboah scored three minutes into overtime to lift No. 2 Vermont past No. 3 UMBC, 2-1, in the America East Semifinals. Brian Wright assisted on Yeboah's game-winner and tallied UVM's other goal in the match. On the same night, No. 5 Binghamton upset No. 1 Albany at Albany in the other semifinal match to allow the Catamounts to host the America East Championship Game for the first time since 2000.
 
UVM, making its eighth championship game appearance and first since 2007, posted a 1-0 victory over Binghamton on Sunday. Wright netted what proved to be the game-winner in the 33rd minute of action. Ironically, the Catamounts last America East Title was a 1-0 win at Binghamton in 2007. Wright, who finished the tournament with five points (2 gls, 1 ast) was named the Most Outstanding Player. Teammates Jack Shea, Nile Walwyn and Jackson Dayton were also named to the All-Championship Team.

CONFERENCE CALL
The America East Conference recognized University of Vermont juniors Brian WrightStefan Lamanna and Jackson Dayton via the announcement of the league's all-conference awards. Wright was named to the America East All-Conference First Team for the second straight year and earns an all-conference spot for the third straight season. Lamanna, a newcomer to the program this season after transferring to UVM from Houston Baptist, earned a spot on the America East All-Conference Second Team. Dayton was named to the all-academic squad. He is a mechanical engineering major at Vermont, carries a 3.64 GPA and has been a member of the America East Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll twice.
 
DAYTON IS ELITE
Senior Jackson Dayton was the recipient of the America East Elite 18 Award, given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA participating in the championship game. Dayton, a member of the America East All-Academic Team, owns a 3.72 GPA as a mechanical engineering major.

THE CATAMOUNTS (11-6-3, 3-2-2 AE)
Vermont earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with a 1-0 victory over Binghamton in the America East Championship Game on Sunday before a record crowd of 1,913 spectators at Virtue Field. Brian Wright's 10th goal of the season in the 33rd minute proved to be all UVM needed to capture its fifth America East Title in program history and earn its ninth trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Catamounts are 6-1-2 in the last nine matches and 6-1-2 when they score in the first half this season. UVM is 1-0-3 in overtime matches this season.
 
WRIGHT STUFF
Brian Wright ranks second in America East in scoring with 27 points (10 gls, 7 asts). His 10 goals are also second among the league leaders. Wright was named to America East All-Conference First Team for the second straight year and was the America East Rookie of the Year in 2013. Wright's 10 goals and 27 points are the most by a Catamount since 2004 (Tony Anderson '04 – 12 gls, 30 pts). Wright has scored in each of the last three games and has eight points in the last three matches for Vermont. Wright has 63 points (7th all-time at UVM), 25 goals (6th all-time at UVM), 13 assists (T12 all-time at UVM) in his 57 career games. Wright's three points against UMBC pushed him past his coach Jesse Cormier into seventh among UVM's all-time points leaders and his game-winning goal against Binghamton in the America East Championship Game moved him past Cormier in goals (25, 6th all-time).
 
TEAMMATES AGAIN
Brian Wright and Stefan Lamanna played club soccer together in Canada. Lamanna spent the first two years of his college career at Houston Baptist University, but transferred to UVM to be reunited with his former teammate this season. Wright and Lamanna have combined for 14 goals and 12 assists this season. Lamanna has tallied five goals and five assists on the year.
 
BIG TIME BERNARD
Bernard Yeboah's game-winning goal in overtime against UMBC in the America East Semifinals was his third game-winning goal of the year for the Catamounts … He has six game-winning goals in his three seasons at Vermont … Yeboah is tied with Stefan Lamanna for second on the team in goals (5) and has 11 points this season.
 
ABOUT BOSTON COLLEGE (9-7-1, 4-4-0 ACC)
Boston College earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament . The Eagles rank 16th in the latest RPI rankings and are led by junior Zeiko Lewis who was named to the All-ACC Second Team for the third straight season. He leads Boston College with six assists and is second on the team in goals with five for 16 points on the season. Simon Enstrom, an All-ACC Freshman Team selection, has tallied a team-high seven goals and has 17 points on the year. Sophomore Len Zeugner anchors the defense for the Eagles and was named to the All-ACC Third Team. 
 
BC fell to Clemson in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament, but is 5-3-0 against teams that qualified for this year's NCAA Tournament.
 
Head coach Ed Kelly, who is in his 28th season at the helm of BC, has led the Eagles to 12 of its 13 NCAA Tournament appearances. He is the all-time winningest coach in program history with over 290 wins.

SERIES 
Vermont owns a 6-3-3 advantage against the Eagles in the all-time series. The two teams every year from 1977-1988, but have not met since a 2-0 UVM win in Burlington, VT in 1988. UVM won four straight matches over the Eagles to close out the all-time series. 
 
NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Vermont is making its ninth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and first since 2007. The Catamounts have earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament for the second time under head coach Jesse Cormier. He also led UVM to its 2007 appearance during which the Catamounts advanced to the second round.
