BURLINGTON, Vt. – Delia McNally scored her first goal of the season on a breakaway midway through the third period to give Vermont a come from behind 3-2 win over Colgate Friday night in non-conference action at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
 
The Raiders leading scorer Megan Sullivan opened the scoring 6:06 into the first period. Taylor Craig cleared the Raiders zone with a pass off the boards and past a Vermont defender that Sullivan corralled in the neutral zone. Sullivan skated in on a two-on-one and fired a wrist shot past Vermont goaltender Madison Litchfield for her seventh goal of the season.
 
The Catamounts were quick to respond tying the game with 12 minutes left in the first period. From behind the net Victoria Andreakos passed the puck out to Gina Repaci at the point. Repaci fired a shot that Brittany Zuback deflected in front and past Colgate's goaltender Ashlynne Rando for her team-leading 13^th goal of the season.
 
After dominating the majority of the play in the second period and outshooting Colgate 11-3 it was Vermont that conceded the only goal of the frame. Hannah Rastrick fired a point shot on net that deflected off a Colgate stick in front and then again off Breanne Wilson-Bennett as the puck found the back of the net with 2:23 left in the period.
 
Vermont equalized midway through the third period. Bridget Baker won a puck battle behind the net and centered a pass to Andreakos in front. Andreakos fanned on a shot attempt but the puck deflected to Zuback who roofed it past Rando with 8:11 left in regulation.
 
Just 1:47 later Amanda Pelkey fed a cross-ice pass from the Vermont zone to McNally at the Colgate blue line and she was in alone with Rando. McNally skated in with speed and fired a shot just under the post as she picked up her second career game-winning goal.
 
Litchfield made 15 saves for Vermont as she picked up her seventh win of the season. Rando made 20 saves for the Raiders in her fourth straight game with 20 or more saves.
 
"I was really pleased with the effort and execution of our entire team tonight," said head coach Jim Plumer. "We have learned some hard lessons over the past several months and it was great to start 2015 off on a positive note.  Our team defense was excellent and we finally capitalized on some chances.  I'm excited to see us built on this and keep playing a smart, efficient game."
 
Vermont closes out the two-game series against Colgate at 4 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.  The Catamounts will be hosting their annual Vermont Teddy Bear Toss, sponsored by the Vermont Teddy Bear Company. We are encouraging fans to bring new or gently used teddy bears and other stuffed animals to toss onto the ice during the second intermission.
 
All teddy bears and stuffed animals will be donated to patients at the University of Vermont Medical Center, Starr Farm Nursing Home, and Burlington Health & Rehab by members of the Vermont men's and women's hockey teams later this winter. 
 
NOTES: Senior co-captain Klara Myren skated in her 100^th game as a Catamount this evening … There were no penalties called on either team … Vermont snapped a season long six-game losing streak.
