HAMDEN, Conn. – Jessica Fontaine's first goal of the season proved to me the game winner to lead the Quinnipiac Bobcats past Vermont, 1-0, in women's soccer action on Saturday.
After a scoreless first half, Fontaine finished off a cross from Sarah Pandolfi in the 66th minute to give QU a 1-0 lead. The Bobcats were able to hold off the Catamounts for the remainder of the game to pick up their first win of the season.
Ally Ramos was credited with two saves in the Vermont net, while Natalia Grodzski made two stops for Quinnipiac.
The Bobcats held a 12-6 advantage in shots (3-2 shots on goal) and both teams attempted five corner kicks in the match.
Quinnipiac moves to 1-4 on the year, while Vermont falls to 2-4 overall.
Vermont returns to Virtue Field for the first time in a month on Wednesday (Sept. 17) when it hosts Siena at 3:30 p.m.
