BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont men's soccer will compete in its third straight in-season tournament this weekend in Birmingham, Alabama. UVM will participate in the 17th "Soccer for a Cure" Classic hosted by UAB. The classic field consists of the Blazers, Dayton, Jacksonville, and UVM and will benefit The Alabama Children's Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.
The undefeated Catamounts take on the hosts, UAB, at 8 p.m. (EST) on Friday (Sept. 12) and face Jacksonville University at 1 p.m. on Sunday (Sept. 14). Both games can be followed via live stats, but only the UAB game will be streamed online.

CatamounTV Highlights vs. St. Francis BrooklynVermont is receiving votes in the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA National Poll for the second straight week, moving into the 26th spot with 33 points. The Catamounts are also receiving votes in the CollegeSoccerNews.com Top 30 Poll and are ranked second in the NSCAA East Region Poll.
UVM stands at 4-0 and is off to its best start since 2005. Vermont picked up a pair of 2-1 wins over La Salle and St. Francis Brooklyn in its own Morgan Stanley Windjammer Classic last weekend.
Senior
Brad Cole was named the America East Player of the Week after netting the game-winning goal on a penalty kick versus La Salle. He also set up both goals in the victory over St. Francis Brooklyn. Freshman
Eamon Kitson was selected as the America East Rookie of the Week to complete the Catamount sweep of the league's weekly honors. Kitson scored his first career goal in the win over La Salle as the Catamounts played a man down for 66 minutes.
ABOUT THE FIELDUAB is also receiving votes in the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA National Poll and stands at 2-2 on the year. The Blazers have picked up wins over Memphis and Mercer, while falling to Cal St. Northridge and No. 3 Virginia. The Blazers were 12-5-1 last season and finished third in Conference USA with a 5-3-1 mark.
Alex Clay leads the team in scoring with six points (2 gls, 2 ast). Ian Svantersson also has two goals this year and Joe Kuzminsky has played every minute in net, owning a .714 save percentage and 1.50 goals against average.
Vermont and UAB last met in 2009 at the Memphis Classic. The Blazers posted a 1-0 win.
Jacksonville stands at 1-2 on the season. The Dolphins earned a win over Florida Atlantic, but dropped decisions to NJIT and Davidson. Four different players have scored for JU and Marc Meny has played every minute in goal. He owns a .706 save percentage and 1.67 save percentage.
Jacksonville was 4-11-3 overall and 2-4-2 in the Sun Belt Conference in 2013. Sunday will mark the first meeting versus Vermont.
Following the trip to Alabama, the Catamounts return to Virtue Field to host Hofstra at noon on September 21. The game will be part of a soccer doubleheader as the UVM women's team will face Dartmouth at 3:30 p.m. that afternoon.
