BURLINGTON, Vt. - The University of Vermont women's soccer team kicks off the 2014 campaign on Friday (Aug. 22) when it hosts the 14th edition of the TD Bank Classic at Virtue Field.

4:00 p.m. – Central Connecticut vs. Vermont
Sunday, Aug. 2411:00 a.m. – Central Connecticut vs. New Hampshire
1:30 p.m. – Youngstown State vs. Vermont

UVM posted a 6-9-3 record in 2013, registering the most wins since 2005, and were the No. 5 seed in the conference playoffs last season. Sophomore
Nikki McFarland was named the America East Rookie of the Year, becoming just the second Catamount in program history to garner the honor.
Head coach
Kristi Lefebvre, who enters her fourth season at the helm, adds 11 newcomers to the squad and has just six upperclassmen on the roster. Vermont returns its top two scorers from a year ago in McFarland (6 gls, 2 ast, 14 pts) and senior
Bre Pletnick (5 gls, 10 pts).
ABOUT CENTRAL CONNECTICUTThe Blue Devils were picked to finish third in the Northeast Conference Preseason Poll. CCSU posted a record 7-12-0 last season and went 5-3-0 in the NEC. Central Connecticut is participating in the TD Bank Classic for the fourth time and won the title in 2012.
ABOUT YOUNGSTOWN STATEThe Penguins return 17 letterwinners and nine starters for sixth-year head coach Will Lemke. YSU was picked to finish sixth in the Horizon League Preseason Poll. Senior Chelsey Haney was the Penguins leading scorer with eight points on three goals and two assists last season. Classmate Jackie Podolsky is the school's all-time leader in goals against average (1.32) and ranks second all-time in wins in net for the Penguins.
ABOUT NEW HAMPSHIREThe Wildcats were picked to finish fifth, two points ahead of Vermont, in the America East Preseason Poll. UNH went 4-8-6 overall last season and will be under the direction of first-year head coach Steve Welham. New Hampshire won the TD Bank Classic title in 2007 and 2010.
Following this weekend's action, the Catamounts will play the next four games on the road. Vermont travels to Fordham for a 1 p.m. game on Friday (Aug. 29) to start the road swing.
