BURLINGTON, Vt. – Audra Richards scored the game-winning goal with 2:12 left in the third period as the Maine Black Bears swept the weekend series over Vermont with a 2-1 win Sunday afternoon at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
 
Maine opened the scoring 8:06 into the first period on a three-on-two rush. Hailey Brown fired a high shot that Madison Litchfield stopped with her shoulder but Jennifer More crashed the net and stuffed the rebound home for her fifth goal of the season. Katy Massey picked up the secondary assist on the play for her first point of the season.
 
Three minutes later the Catamounts equalized with their first goal of the weekend series. During a period of extended pressure Amanda Pelkey centered a pass to Klara Myren that she deflected in past Meghann Treacy for her second goal of the season. Myren's even strength goal at the 11:26 mark of the first was also assisted by Rachael Ade.
 
Vermont controlled a majority of the play in the second period outshooting the Black Bears 12-5. The Catamounts were 0-for-2 on the power play in the second stanza, while the Black Bears failed to convert on three power play opportunities.
 
The stalemate continued through the third period until the Black Bears took advantage of a pinching Vermont defenseman. Audra Richards skated the puck through the neutral zone, stepped into the slot with two Maine teammates, on her left who were covered on the play, and then ripped a shot top corner that beat Litchfield. It was Richards' team-leading sixth goal of the season.
 
The Catamounts pulled their goalie for an extra attacker as Vermont tried to equalize in the final two minutes. Dayna Colang rang a backhand shot off the crossbar but Vermont couldn't solve Treacy who picked up her sixth win of the season. Treacy stopped 69 of the 70 shots she faced this weekend.
 
"Much better game than yesterday actually one of our better games of the last few weeks," said head coach Jim Plumer. "Generated a lot of offense and lots of shots, just ran into a really hot goalie this weekend. We kept the game simple today, we played at a much faster pace, we moved the puck really well, sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the other team."
