VERMONT WOMEN'S HOCKEY NOTEBOOKThe University of Vermont women's hockey team continues non-conference play this weekend with a home-and-home series against the Rensselaer Engineers. The teams will faceoff at 3 p.m. Saturday at Houston Field House before a 2 p.m. matchup at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
LITCHFIELD NAMED DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEKSophomore goaltender
Madison Litchfield was named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. The Williston, Vt. native stopped 62 of the 67 shots she faced last weekend as Vermont opened the regular season on the road against No. 10 North Dakota and Bemidji State.
Litchfield made 29 saves, including 12 in the third period, as Vermont took down North Dakota 3-1 Saturday for its first win of the season. It was Litchfield's first career win against a ranked opponent.
CAMPEAU SELECTED AS TD BANK STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEKSophomore forward
Cassidy Campeau was named UVM's TD Bank Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Oct. 5.
Campeau scored Vermont's first two goals of the season Saturday night as the Catamounts defeated seventh ranked North Dakota 3-1.
PELKEY NAMED TO US NATIONAL TEAM FOR FOUR NATIONS CUPAmanda Pelkey has been named to the U.S. Women's National Team that will compete in the Four Nations Cup, November 4-8, in Kamloops, British Columbia.
Pelkey will be the first Catamount and first Vermonter to represent the United States on the senior national team.

TEAM POSTER DAY SUNDAY PRESENTED BY THE UPS STORE DOWNTOWNSunday's game against RPI will be "Team Poster Day" with postgame autographs courtesy of the UPS Store Downtown.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTRensselaer: The Engineers also headed out to the Midwest to face North Dakota and Bemidji State last weekend. RPI fell 7-1 at UND last Friday before dropping a 4-0 contest against the Beavers Saturday night.
Freshman forward Shayna Tomlinson scored the Engineers lone goal of the weekend against North Dakota.
Last season the Engineers were 10-20-3 and finished ninth in the ECAC. Rensselaer has not won a game dating back to January 18. RPI is 0-11-1 since that win against Union.
Vermont defeated RPI 3-1 last season at Houston Field House in the teams only meeting on October 19.
Dayna Colang scored twice for Vermont and
Madison Litchfield made 29 saves for the Catamounts.
Vermont is 9-7-3 all-time against the Engineers. The Catamounts are 1-1-0 against RPI under head coach

PLAYING CLOSE TO HOME FOR LEVEILLEESophomore forward
Casey Leveillee is from Delanson, N.Y., which is a little over 30 miles from the Rensselaer campus. Leveillee picked up two goals and eight assists for the Catamounts last season including the game-winner at New Hampshire on Feb. 15 which clinched home-ice for the Hockey East quarterfinals.
FRESHMEN DEFENSE MAKING A DIFFERENCEThe Catamounts have started three freshmen on defense this season;
Amanda Drobot,
Katherine Pate, and
Taylor Willard. Pate picked up an assist in Vermont's win over North Dakota, while Willard is second in Hockey East with five blocked shots. The group has also combined for eight shots on goal.
SPECIAL TEAMS LOOM LARGEThe Engineers and Catamounts are both seeking their first power play goal of the season. Last weekend RPI was 0 for 17 with the advantage and Vermont was 0 for 8. The Engineers also gave up a shorthanded tally against North Dakota.
NEW BENCHMARKS AT VERMONTThe Catamounts established several program records last season including winning 18 games to finish fourth overall in Hockey East. Vermont also won it's first ever Division I playoff game defeating Maine 3-2 in triple overtime to advance to the Hockey East Semifinals.
ZUBACK AND PELKEY REWRITE THE RECORD BOOKSenior forwards
Amanda Pelkey and
Brittany Zuback set several new single season records last year. Pelkey's 21 goals and 40 points were new team marks as well as Zuback's 23 assists. Pelkey (74) and Zuback (67) are also the all-time Vermont leaders in points.
ALL ACROSS THE MAPThe Catamounts have players from 11 different states (Alaska, California, Florida, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Vermont), one Canadian province (Ontario) and one other country (Sweden). Vermont has five players from Ontario more than any other state or province.
2ND ANNUAL PACK THE GUT CHALLENGE PRESENTED BY THE WINDJAMMERThe Vermont women's hockey team will host the second annual "Pack the Gut Challenge Presented by The Windjammer" on Friday October 24 as they face Union College.
The goal this season is to break last year's single game Hockey East attendance record of 2,028 fans and support the local Meals on Wheels organization. Admission is only $2.
