VERMONT WOMEN'S HOCKEY NOTEBOOKVermont (3-2-1, 0-0-0 HEA) continues non-conference play this weekend as they welcome Union College (1-4-1, 0-0-0 ECAC) to Gutterson Fieldhouse for a two-game series. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m. on Friday before a 2 p.m. start on Saturday afternoon. Friday night is the second annual Pack the Gut Challenge Presented by the Windjammer, attendance is just $2.
PACK THE GUT CHALLENGE PRESENTED BY THE WINDJAMMER FRIDAY NIGHTLast year women's hockey successfully broke the Hockey East regular season attendance record of 1,498 as 2,028 fans attended their game against Boston College. The goal this season is to break last year's attendance record and support the local Meals on Wheels organization.
Admission is only $2 and all proceeds from a second period Chuck-a-Puck as well as five percent of merchandise sales will benefit Meals on Wheels in Burlington. As always admission is free for all UVM students with a valid I.D.

SPECIAL TEAMS HELPING THE CATAMOUNTS STRONG STARTVermont's power play and penalty kill are both ranked in the top ten in the NCAA. The power play is clicking at 20.8% (5/24) which is best in Hockey East and fifth best in the NCAA.
The penalty kill has successfully killed off 19 straight power play opportunities for Vermont's opponents. Overall they are 20-for-21 on the kill good for 95.2%, which is sixth in the NCAA.
COLANG AND PELKEY LEAD THE WAYForwards
Dayna Colang and
Amanda Pelkey are tied for the team lead in scoring with two goals and three assists. Vermont is undefeated this season when either picks up a point.
STRONG SOPHOMORE START FOR BAKERSophomore forward
Bridget Baker is third on the team in scoring with two goals and two assists in six games this season. The Catamounts are 2-0-1 when she registers a point. Both of her goals were on the power play and she is 5
th in the NCAA and tied for first in Hockey East with the two power play tallies.
SMOOTH TRANSITION FOR MADISONSophomore
Madison Litchfield has taken the starting job in net at Vermont and ran with it. She is 3-2-1 this season with 1.99 goals-against average and .928 save percentage. Her goals-against average is 15
th in the NCAA.
Litchfield's start to the season is the best by a Vermont goaltender since Kristen Olychuck started her senior campaign 4-1-0 in 2009.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTUnion: The Dutchwomen are 1-4-1 so far this season, they enter the weekend after a 2-2 tie at home against Penn State in their most recent action. Union's only win of the season was 1-0 decision against Connecticut.
The Dutchwomen are led in net by senior goaltender Shenae Lundberg. She became Union's all-time shutout leader making 33 saves in their win over UConn. She is also Union's all-time leader in wins. She enters the weekend with a 2.00 goals-against average and a .945 save percentage.
Junior forward Jessica Kaminsky leads the team in scoring with one goal and four assists for five points in six games. Junior Kathryn Tomaselli is the only Dutchwomen skater with two goals.
The Catamounts are 18-0-0 all-time against Union. It is the only Division I opponent Vermont has played and not lost to at least once.
NAHA CONNECTION WITH UNION AND VERMONTVermont sophomore
Sarah Kelly played at NAHA with Union's Hannah and Emily Erickson. The Erickson's and Kelly won NAHA's fifth JWHL title in 2013, defeating Edge School 6-2.

NEW BENCHMARKS AT VERMONTThe Catamounts established several program records last season including winning 18 games to finish fourth overall in Hockey East. Vermont also won it's first ever Division I playoff game defeating Maine 3-2 in triple overtime to advance to the Hockey East Semifinals.
ALL ACROSS THE MAPThe Catamounts have players from 11 different states (Alaska, California, Florida, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Vermont), one Canadian province (Ontario) and one other country (Sweden). Vermont has five players from Ontario more than any other state or province.
