Final Score: Vermont 2, Rensselaer 2 | CatamounTV Highlights
BURLINGTON, Vt.
– Sophomore forward Bridget Baker scored two power play goals to lead Vermont in a 2-2 tie against Rensselaer in non-conference action from Gutterson Fieldhouse Sunday afternoon.

The Catamounts came out strong in the first period outshooting the Engineers 6-0 in the early going before earning their first power play opportunity.  With the advantage Delia McNally passed to Gina Repaci at the point and she fired a low shot on RPI goaltender Brianna Piper. Piper made the initial save but she kicked the rebound out in the slot to Baker who stashed it home for her first goal of the season.

The Engineers equalized later in the first period on a goalmouth scramble. Freshman Whitney Renn was credited with her first career goal after it was ruled that a Catamount skater pushed her into Vermont goaltender Madison Litchfield and in the process the puck crossed the line. Renn's tally at the 12:25 mark was assisted by Kathryn Schilter and Laura Horwood.

Neither team could break the tie in the second period despite the teams combining for five power play opportunities in the middle stanza. The Catamounts held a 22-8 advantage in shots heading to the third period.

Lauren Wash scored the go-ahead goal for the Engineers during a stretch of four-on-four action. Wash entered the Vermont zone and cut by a defender on her way to the net before sliding a backhand shot through the legs of Litchfield to make it 2-1 3:54 into the third. Horwood and Schilter collected their second assists of the game on Wash's first goal of the season.

Baker equalized for the Catamounts on the power play with a near carbon copy of her first goal. This time it was Sarah Campbell feeding Repaci at the point but the result was the same Baker quickly gathered the rebound after an initial Piper save and tied the game with a wrist shot from the faceoff circle. It was Baker's first career multi-goal game.

The Catamounts maintained significant pressure in the RPI zone following the game-tying goal but they couldn't find another in regulation as Vermont and Rensselaer headed to overtime for the first time this season.

Both goaltenders continued their excellent play in the extra frame as overtime ended without either team finding a breakthrough moment. Litchfield made 18 saves for Vermont, including four in overtime. Piper made 34 saves for the Engineers.

Vermont improved to 2-1-1 on the season after its first two weekends of non-conference play.

The Catamounts return to action next weekend as they host the defending CHA tournament champion RIT in a two-game series at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The teams will face off at 4 p.m. on Saturday before concluding the series at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

NOTES: Dayna Colang was an impressive 9-for-12 at the faceoff dot today … After being shutout last weekend the Catamounts power play was 4-for-8 against the Engineers this weekend … Gina Repaci led all Catamounts with eight shots this afternoon … Vermont is now 10-7-4 all-time against Rensselaer, under Coach Plumer the Catamounts are now 2-1-1.
